Happy birthday to me...and BTTF! [Jul. 3rd, 2005|05:11 pm]

Today I am 15! Whohoo! Now I can start nagging Mom to let me get my driver's permit. She's all freaked by the idea, for some reason. :-P

Today my fave film -- Back to the Future -- is 20! Sweet!

Yeah, so I wasn't born yet when BTTF came out. Lame. I guess my parents saw it in the theater when it was out, so maybe I was there in spirit. I saw the movie the first time when I was six. It was the summer of '96. My parents went out somewhere on a date, so Zoey and I were stiffed with a babysitter. Nicole Jennings, the 17-year-old neighbor down the street got the job. (I guess she's married now, with a kid. Man.) She watched us a lot in those days. I think she wanted to talk to her boyfriend on the phone or something, so she brought some videos over, and one of them was BTTF. I think the fact it was the only movie she had with her that I hadn't seen was a reason why it was popped into the VCR. I totally dug it on first viewing. Doc Brown was just so cool -- and the time travel! He was a total inspiration. I'd kill to have a time machine as bitchin' as the DeLorean.

So, yeah. I got my parents to rent the sequels -- I never knew they existed -- and the rest is history. It sucks that I was born the same year the last movie came out -- I feel like I got gypped with a lot of that stuff. If I ever build a time machine of my own -- ha ha -- I should go back to July 3rd, 1985 and catch the movie in the big screen run.

Oh, and again, it's my birthday today. Mom got me a couple new videogames, and Zoey gave me a Nintento-related t-shirt from Hot Topic. Dad gave me money and passes to Universal Studios Hollywood to use in August when Zoey and I visit him in L.A. Haven't heard from any friends, though, since it's the 4th of July weekend. Everyone's out of town or whatever. Boooo. Mom's working tomorrow, natch, covering some story at the park, so I have no idea what's going down here. Zoey will probably hang out at her boyfriend's place.

Gonna watch my BTTF DVDs now. Heh.

Sweet. Check this out:

Rememberance of Things Future: The Mystery of Time

I would've killed to go to that time travel confab at MIT. Too bad school wasn't out until last week. Oh, and I'm not old enough to fly across the country without my mom spazzing about it.

Yeah, so school got out last week. Finally. I survived my freshman year. My sister's been MIA between her boyfriend and her job at the mall, and Mom's also been gone, so I've had run of the house. I've been putting finishing touches on a new computer program and device. Hopefully I can test that out in the next few weeks to see if it works. If it does, you'll get the nitty gritty details here. If it doesn't...back to the drawing board again, and all that crap.

My birthday is this Sunday. It sucks so much to be born the day before the 4th of July. Seriously. Everyone is always out of town or doing family crap. The only thing cool is that Back to the Future came out on July 3rd, 1985. So I sort of have the same birthday as my fave movie. Mom's letting me have a couple friends come over here for a Halo tournament the weekend after that.

Not much else to put down right now. I gotta go walk the dog. Later.

Hey, my name is Sam. I live in O'Hara, Oregon, which is kind of small and boring. (Salem is the closest "big" city.) Since I'm a teenager (duh), I live with my mom, who's a reporter on the newspaper, my sister, Zoey, and a dog. (Doc.) Big fan of the Back to the Future films, and anything else involving time travel. (That old series "Quantum Leap" is another fave, heh.) Except the movie Timeline. Wow, that was bad....

I got to school at O'Hara High School, and spend most of my time with friends or messing around on my computer. I have a lot of projects with programming, and do some inventing on the side, too. I dream of inventing a time machine -- maybe someday, heh. I'd be awesome to go check out history and the future firsthand.

So, basically, to sum up, I'm a geek. You can geek along with me if you like. :-)
